if you are in kyoto, just south of gyoen are the best donuts i have ever eaten. i am canadian and was suckled on donuts, and so this is a real testament. here is a little writeup in english on the shop, hitsuji, that explains better than i ever could about sprouted brown rice and kneading in chocolate. i`m a little obsessed with an-donuts, and this one blew my mind a little bit. i was gone. out of my body for a few minutes. the ratio, or shall i say balance, of crunchy to soft to chewy, is like, well, WOW. and the decor…astral. i felt like i went to kobe for a minute. to travel without going anywhere, isn`t that divine?
