when i first came to visit this temple in kyoto while living in nara, it was on the end leg of a whirlwind tour of busy touristy temples. i was amazed at how quiet and empty by contrast this place was. almost 6 years later, now a resident of kyoto i returned to find it much as i first did - a wonderful escape from the city around it. i said to my friend, this is a secret best kept hid. i`m so glad to have a place to run away to nearby. (i know it is not only my secret, as i saw a few scattered souls spending precious, slow time, hiding in tea rooms and peering out into the gardens undisturbed. i could literally feel the energy in my chest of centuries of quiet meditation and slow growing likewise undisturbed moss gardens.)
