after you successfully dye and unskein hundreds upon hundreds of yards of beautiful wild eri silk, panic starts to creep in. how on earth do i do justice to this beautiful fiber that i have already invested so much time in? japanese indigo, the last batch. i really enjoyed dying with it. perhaps next i`ll try a natural yellow dye from japanese pine? or an old favorite, st. john`s wort. one of my first adventures in natural dyeing about six years back (or more!) was shiso. in canada i loved using sugar beets to dye silk. the truth is though, blue is my favorite color. always has been, so the indigo is extra satisfying to weave with. i really feel that nothing compares to the colors and variations of the natural dyes.
